  • Have teaching experience in the UK

  • Hold a PGCE and QTS

  • Have proven experience leading or managing an English department

  • Demonstrate strong curriculum knowledge, assessment literacy, and team leadership skills

📝 Key Job Duties

The Head of English will:

Department Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and support English teachers across the Upper School

  • Drive high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment

  • Oversee department planning, curriculum development, and resource allocation

  • Conduct regular lesson observations and provide constructive feedback

  • Lead departmental meetings, professional development, and training initiatives

Curriculum & Assessment

  • Ensure a coherent, engaging English curriculum aligned with international and school standards

  • Monitor student progress and implement data-driven improvement strategies

  • Develop high-quality assessments, examinations, and marking policies

  • Guide enrichment programs related to English, such as reading initiatives, writing competitions, and debating

Operational Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with school leadership on whole-school academic planning

  • Manage departmental budgets, resources, and timetables

  • Support recruitment and onboarding of new English teachers

  • Communicate effectively with parents and contribute to school events

  • Uphold safeguarding standards and school policies

Teaching Role

  • Teach a reduced timetable of English classes to model best practice

  • Build strong, positive relationships with students and support their academic growth
